UK Government Invests £452M in Faraday-Led Battery Innovation Programme

Jul 8, 2025 | Industry News

We welcome the UK Government’s announcement of a £452 million investment in the newly launched Battery Innovation Programme, which will run from April 2026 to March 2030. This programme, delivered by Innovate UK under the Department for Business and Trade, marks a major expansion of the previous Faraday Battery Challenge.

As a key delivery partner, the Faraday Institution will continue to lead world-class academic research focused on next-generation battery chemistries — including solid-state, lithium-sulfur, and sodium-ion — as well as recyclability and sustainability.

This renewed commitment underscores the UK’s ambition to remain at the forefront of the global battery sector, supporting the full value chain from innovation to commercialisation.

At Recyclus Group, we believe battery innovation must go hand-in-hand with end-of-life solutions. Our work in battery recycling and materials recovery plays a critical role in ensuring the circularity and resilience of the UK’s battery supply chain.

Robin Brundle, Executive Chairman and Co-Founder of Recyclus, attended his inaugural board meeting yesterday as the newest member of the Faraday Institution’s Board of Trustees.
