Supporting Cradle-to-cradle recycling of lithium-ion batteries
Who We Are
We are the UK’s first industrial-scale lithium-ion battery recycler, delivering cradle-to-cradle solutions in the UK battery recycling market. By supporting OEMs in lowering their carbon footprint by eliminating the need for international disposal, Recyclus Group provides a sustainable alternative to exporting or landfilling consumer electronics batteries.
Permitted to process up to 22,000 tonnes of Li-ion batteries annually, our recycling process is industry-leading, capable of safely dealing with the 5+ types of Li-ion battery chemistries, in any combination, at any one time.
With proprietary technology and full ownership of both the process and IP, our in-house design and manufacturing capabilities allow us to offer tailored, agile services that enhance operational efficiency.

Our Vision and Strategy
For several years, the founder shareholders of Recyclus have been involved in ecologically sustainable exploration in Europe, the United States, and Africa for critically important technology metals, which are vital to maintain progress in the Global Energy Transition.
Recognising the need for a shift in the transportation sector, particularly automotive, from a “buy, use, discard” mindset, Recyclus has focused on advancing the circular economy through innovative battery recycling solutions. By partnering with cutting-edge technology companies, Recyclus is helping reshape the industry.
An early-to-market strategy enables Recyclus to lock in the global automotive, aviation, and heavy vehicle markets by offering a comprehensive contracted solution, reducing the risk of market share loss to current and/or emerging competition.
This strategy not only enhances Recyclus’ brand position as leader and innovator in the market but also encourages vital government and industry support, which is key to furthering R&D activity into lithium-ion battery recycling solutions.
Cradle-to-Cradle Innovation
Recyclus Group addresses the growing demand for secure and efficient battery collection and recycling, enhancing compliance and reinforcing positive brand reputations. Incorporated in December 2019 after extensive research and discussions with experienced industry professionals, we are the UK’s first industrial-scale lithium-ion battery recyclers.
Our focus on national cradle-to-cradle recycling leverages a robust network of suppliers, researchers, and influencers, driving the shift towards green innovation and zero-landfill solutions.
With the rise of consumer electronics and electric vehicles, there is an urgent need for safe handling and processing of end-of-life lithium-ion batteries in the UK. Recyclus plays a critical role in this cradle-to-cradle cycle by utilising eco-friendly, low-energy, waterless recycling technology, allowing for the indefinite reuse of valuable metals.
Our initial phase focuses on safely accepting all battery types at our LiBatt plant, generating revenue through gate fees and the sale of recovered critical metals, including Black Mass. In the next phase, we aim to establish a joint venture for modular separation of Black Mass in the UK, enhancing circularity and reducing reliance on imported materials.

Our Achievements
Innovate UK Grant, University of Birmingham (UoB):
In a £1.96m Innovate UK project, Recyclus and UoB are developing mobile trucks for lithium-ion battery recycling. UoB will design 3D-printed rotor tools, and the trucks will recycle 0.5 to 2 tonnes per hour using UBRS technology.
Clean Futures Accelerator:
Recyclus secured £50K to develop a recycling process for lithium thionyl chloride (LTC) batteries, aiming to recover lithium and reduce environmental risks.
ITES Scheme:
Secured a place on the Governments’ Innovating for Transport and Energy Systems (ITES) scheme to boost research, innovation and investment between the UK and India to accelerate the path towards Net Zero.
The Engineer, Automotive Award:
Recyclus Group won the C2I Award in the automotive category, surpassing McLaren Technologies and GKN, for our innovative Universal Battery Recycling System (UBRS), developed in partnership with the University of Birmingham’s AMPLab.
UK Battery Strategy Taskforce:
Recyclus is proud to be a founding member of the UK Battery Strategy Taskforce, highlighting our leadership and commitment to advancing sustainable battery recycling practices in the UK.
