Recyclus Successfully Recycles Fire-Damaged EV Li-ion Battery Packs for Leading OEM
ecyclus has successfully completed a project to recycle fire-damaged lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery packs for an electric vehicle (EV) original equipment manufacturer (OEM).
The project involved processing full EV Li-ion battery packs that had been compromised due to a thermal incident. Our specialist high-voltage engineering team expertly dismantled the damaged units, which were then swiftly handled by our on-site recycling team. All recycling was conducted safely at our industrial-scale Li-ion battery facility in Wolverhampton.
This achievement further validates our cradle-to-cradle recycling solution. It also marks the addition of our third new customer this month, including two major automotive players and a leading online retailer. This milestone underscores our capability to address the critical challenges of safely storing, transporting, processing, and recycling Li-ion batteries.
At Recyclus, we’re not just solving the challenges of end-of-life or compromised Li-ion batteries —we’re also contributing to the supply of essential critical metals that drive the transition to electrification.
Robin Brundle, Director and Co-Founder of Recyclus, said:
“It has been an exciting start to 2025, with this contract marking the second automotive customer agreement announced this month, in addition to our agreement with a leading online retailer. The selection of our Li-ion battery recycling solutions by such high-calibre organisations demonstrates the growing demand and recognition of our pioneering technology. It is a strong validation in Recyclus’ ability to address the challenges of recycling end-of-life Li-ion batteries and, in this case, offering what we believe is a unique UK solution for extracting value from fire damaged batteries that might otherwise end up in landfill.”
